In early 20th-century Central Asia, fabric for patchwork textiles was rarely bought. Traditionally, pieces of fabric would be given out at important family events and celebrations - and the magical properties would be passed on from the giver to the receiver. It was also believed that patchwork and fabric scraps had protective powers to ward off evil spirits.

These quilts were traditionally sewn by hand until the early 20th century.

Keep in mind ...

Our vintage and antique pieces have traveled throughout the world and survived decades - maybe even centuries - of use. Do not expect them to be in perfect or *new* condition. Signs of their past makers and owners may be noticeable such as small holes, loose threads, & stains. In our opinion, this adds to their charm!
