Wedding Shawl (dupatta)
A wedding shawl of heavy silk embroidered with metallic thread in a design of rows of various stylized flowers.The floral mainfild is surrounded by double gated borders on the narrow edge and narrow borders on the long edges.The embroidery is nicely intricate and in the borders the ground is cut out and stitched.Couples with a flared skirt it is part of a festive outfit. It is a heavy piece of clothing, the heavier the better as it has more metallic work. As for the poor woman who has to carry it, obviously that was not a consideration…
