Tapestry Weave Skirtcloth (Htamein)
The prized cloth for Htamein(sarong) in Burma has always been the Lantaya-Acheic.This horizontally patterned silk cloth is woven on a traditional loom in interlocking tapestry weave. The complicated work gets done by pairs of girls who painstakingly manipulate 100-200 small shuttles back and forth in turn through a warp of over 1500 threads.The design usually distinct wavelike cables, sometimes with floral endings.
