Sikh Turban Cloth, or Lungi
Lungi is a term which can be applied to both waist cloths and turbans depending on the locality. Lungis are usually of high quality in both material and weaving. The silk yarns were imported from central Asia or China and the weaving done in urban centers all over Punjab. This lungi, similar to one in the Victoria and Albert Museum, has a plain two tone indigo center with multiple gold bands on both ends for decoration. See “Colors of the Indus, Costumes and Textiles of Pakistan” by Askari and Crill, page 90 for a similar example.
