Carved Root Table

Root carving is a traditional Chinese art form. It maintains the natural form of the root while adding some carving. Better pieces had the roots bent  to fit the intended design and in some cases water corrosion is also employed. The result is always organic forms with beautiful smooth surfaces.

This table has a very nice surface patina.  The base is a complex root system correctly configuring the artistic vision of the artist with a practical purpose.
