Prada Gilt Batik
Of all the textile techniques used in Indonesia, Batik is the most celebrated. In Batik, a wax resist is applied to the textile before dying, then removed to form an image in negative.
From 19th Century Bali, this Batik utilizes a unique technique known as Prada. Using gold leaf dust, the pigment is applied to one side of the fabric, creating startling gold designs overlaid on the original fabric. These luxurious cloths are worn at festivals and religious ceremonies in Bali.
This three-color Prada Batik has a gold-leaf lattice with abstracted floral and insect motifs.
