Pictorial Zari Panel

This pictorial Zari panel of velvet with images of three dancers, a deer, an elephant bearing a rider and a plant flanked by two birds. They are all contained in small rectangles within floral borders. At first glance this would seem like a typical Zari work but the usage of beads, the variety of stitchwork and the backing material point to an early date and commissioned origin.
