Pichwai with Lotus Flowers
Pichwais are large scale devotional pictures, usually painted on cloth. They are hung behind idols in Hindu samples, and their function is to illustrate the tales of Krishna to the illiterate. Some pichwais have detailed scenes while others are more meditative such as this example, which features rows of lotus flowers. Pichwais originated in the Deccan plateau and can be a group effort or done by individual artists.
