Diminutive Pair of Saddle Bags
This pair of small saddle bags were made in Persia in the 19th century. They are made out of black and red velvet, decorated with hanging fruit and flowering branches. The borders are meandering and flowering vines. This detailed work is all executed in metallic thread and polychrome silk. Tasseled string fasteners and a red velvet connecting panel and backing contribute to a luxurious look.
