Ottoman Embroidered Wall Hanging
This Ottoman embroidered wall hanging was made in the 19th century out of velvet, silk embroidery, and metallic thread.
This large reddish brown velvet wall hanging is decorated with embroidered silk and metallic threads. The design scheme features a double urn with a flowering vine within a center medallion. A variety of flowers fill the rest of the field and the borders are dense with more florals and birds, including peacocks and parrots. Some embroidery is missing from this sumptuous wall hanging, the silk is faded, and the ground velvet is worn and split, but it is backed and stabilized so it could easily be hung without inflicting more damage.
