Miao Festival Skirt
Skirt made of tabby cotton tie-dyed with indigo and further decorated with applique and pleated. Unusual as more often the blue patterning is done in wax resist technique. The plain cotton top is meant to be hidden under layers. Costume traditions in south west China vary from village to village but all use multiple techniques of embellishment. This skirt is from Xianglong in the Anshun province.
