Mezzaro Fragment
Mezzara are printed and painted cotton hangings, based on the Indian painted Palampores of the 18th and 19th c. They were produced in Italy, particularly in Genoa. They are different from their Indian cousins in the quality of the cotton, the limited color range and the types of flowers depicted.Yet there are similatities especially in the main attraction, the tree of life. This panel is about a third of a Mezzaro and features a charming monkey.
