Lampung Men’s Skirt Cloth
This Lampung men’s skirt cloth was made in the 19th century out of cotton and gold-wrapped thread. The weaver employed several techniques, including supplementary-weft weaving, and needle-weaving. The maker’s skill is especially evident in the section of open work she added between the two registers of golden embellishment. This gold work is concentrated to one end of the textile, which would look like a vertical stripe of decoration when worn.
