Kurdish Brocade Panel
A large striped silk panel with weft silk brocading. The colorful linear design features diamond shapes and zigzag overlay. Material like this was made for Kurdish men’s garments. Kurds, the largest ethnic group without a country of their own, live primarily in four countries: Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran. This panel was woven in Iran in 1903, details woven into one of the selvedges.
