Kalighat Painting of Ganesha
Ganesha, a Hindu god who is half-man, half-elephant, in this painting sits upon a throne. Kalighat paintings were a form of folk art that was developed for the tourist trade in 19th Century Calcutta. These works were produced at fast rate and therefore were painted with bold strokes. The shading reflects a western influence.
