Itajime Shibori Panel
Shibori is the inclusive Japanese name for all tie dyeing techniques. There are many types of shibori depending on how the dyed yarn is manipulated. Shibori can be achieved with binding, stitching, folding, twisting, compressing and other methods. The most famous method is the one where grains of rice are tied individually. Itajime shibori is a shaped resist technique. The cloth is sandwiched between two shaped pieces of wood that are held in place with clamps thus preventing the dye from penetrating the cloth they cover.
