Indonesian Shoulder Cloth

Silk and cotton songket from the island of Java. Songket is part of the Indonesian attire and is worn folded lengthwise over one shoulder.

This songket is of a rather late date but is beautifully made and has nice thick tassels. The short ends feature interlocking zigzag motif flanked by two borders contains diamond shape design. The field has rows of small diamond shapes. The design is executed by supplementary woven silk while the ground is cotton.
