Fez Embroidery
Moroccan urban embroideries are easy to identify to specific cities. Each large metropolitan center has its own style. Later on when there was more interaction between the towns, embroideries may combine elements of more than one place.
The design and style of Fez embroidery, like many other Moroccan embroideries, show Hispano-Moresque influence. The design elements are abstracted florals and geometrics. It is almost always monochromatic and often reversible. The handwork is executed in a counted stitch technique such as reversible double running stitch, stem stitch or back stitch. The embroidery is done with tightly coiled silk on heavy cotton as in this textile.
