Embroidered Velvet Cover
This embroidered velvet cover was made in Persia in the 19th century. The velvet is embroidered with metallic thread. The center medallion features a lion with the sun rising behind him, which was the emblem of the Qajar dynasty which ruled Persia from 1794 through 1925. It is surrounded with a field of meandering vines with flowers and birds, with a similarly decorated triple border.
