Delhi Shawl
This Delhi shawl was made in the mid-19th century out of silk and wool.
Delhi shawls were originally sashes for men, but became enormously popular in Europe in the 1850s as accessories for women. Some were embroidered on linen or netting. This one is embroidered on wool with stylistic influence from Kashmir. The botehs and florals motifs are executed in poly-chrome floss silk in satin stitch.
