Chinese Informal Jacket
A Han Chinese woman’s nonofficial informal jacket. A calf-length garment with front center closing, fastened with three loops holding three gilt metal ball closures. Full sleeves, yoke collar, and four-inch side vents. It is decorated with six roundels featuring birds and delicate pavilions in a landscape. Further decorated in a scatter design of butterflies, birds and blooming flowers. The yoke collar and sleeve bands are of a cream color and featuring cranes in water and bamboo all in an articulated landscape. The stitch work is done with polychrome silk and metallic thread in work of the most excellent quality with attention to the smallest details such as the ruyi shapes near the upper bottom edges of the jacket.
