Ceremonial Skirt
Ceremonial skirt from Samayac,Guatemala. Unlike other regional skirts was worn wrapped without a sash. The striped tabby ground is decorated with a supplementary weft. Weft is selvedge to selvedge and quite narrow. Along the edges, which curled onto themselves but now are ironed flat, one can see the original colors before they faded into the stunning abrash that they are now. A design of linear nature with rows of stripes, some plain and some containing hectagonal shapes. The luxurious shimmering effect is achieved by using heavy floss thread in a very loose weaving.
