Blue Berber Woman’s Shawl (handira)
The Atlas Berber women have remained faithful to their traditional costumes, including the use of rectangular blankets draped over shoulders and fastened with two ties around the neck. These shawls are worked on one side for decorating and the other, the inside, for warmth. The warm side ,though, with tufted and unspun wool applied with knots, produces a richly textured surface with visual pleasures all of its own.
