Banjara Quilt
Cotton Quilt, embroidered with cotton in a variety of stitches including chain, satin and herringbone; further decorated with small mirror fragments, cowry shells, tassles and other materials. The design is mostly abstract with geometric shapes in groupings. Embroideries like this are made by the Banjara people, a Hindu caste of carters that evolved into a caste of day laborers, both men and women.Their embroideries are small and used as Rumals (covers). They often get adapted into bags. This composite is modern and made of several such old embroideries.
