Zok, or Syrian Runner
The pride of Syrian weaving is the silk, cotton and metal thread tapestries of Aleppo. Runners like this would be used for home furnishings. Similar but narrower weavings were also used as sashes.
Aleppo was the centre for this type of weaving, called “zok” after a famous weaver. This is a fine, colorful example of a tapestry weave with arrow, wheat and cloud motifs.
