Syrian Coat

A  woman villager’s coat from Syria.

Polychrome silk embroidery  decorates an indigo cotton ground coat. The sleeves are long and embroidered down the top of the arm and around the bottom of the sleeve. The coat itself is almost floor-length and has two side slits to allow for more movement.

The embroidery design features squares, rectangles and L-shapes, all done in cross stitch technique.
