Syrian Tapestry Bag
This Syrian tapestry bag was made in the 19th century. It is made of two identical panels sewn to form a triangle. Were there four of these it could have been made for a hat. The tapestry is plain weft face weave having weft threads of different colors worked over portions of the warp to form a design. The warp threads are hidden and the weft yarn discontinuous. Each color weft is interlaced back and forth in its own area. The distinguishing factor here is the triangular shape which is achieved by wrapping the weft over two or more warp threads. It is in essence a panel with only one sided warp.
