Gilt Chintz Wallhanging or Cover

Rectangular cover of red cotton decorated in block printing technique and freehand painting. The design features vertical stripes of red, blue and green filled with a variety of flowers and birds; parrots, peacocks and roosters among them.The triple borders with a primary wide border containing larger, more articulated flowers and birds while the narrow secondary ones containing small flowers. Mounted on a frame. Originally produced on the Coromandel coast and possibly for the Persian market.
