Brocade Fragment
Fragment of furnishing silk brocade. The blue satin ground is brocaded with stylized meandering vines in yellow silk . The rest of the colors are in the peonies and their detailing and they are applied in no discernible repeat pattern with supplementary discontinuous weft in a dazzling array of silk. Furthermore, some details are done with real gold filament. The influence here is European with peonies substituting for the roses common in the Italian prototypes of such textiles.
