160 Boys Brocade Panel
Chinese brocades featuring rows of boys engaged in games and other juvenile activities usually have one hundred boys or double panels with fifty boys each. One hundred boys is a Chinese auspicious symbol that dates back to the Song dynasty. Children are a symbol of longevity, prosperity and well being. The Chinese famously prefer sons over daughters and abundance of them represents continuation of the family line. This panel differs from the usual ones in that it features one hundred and sixty boys in sixteen rows of eight. Is it a case of the more the better?Backed with heavy cotton.
