Cuff for Informal Robe of a Woman
White gauze cuff completely worked in polychrome silk counted stitch embroidery. The scatter design features butterflies, bats and a variety of flowers, chief among them three large lotuses. The dark diagonal fret background seems to be brocade but on close inspection one can see that it is incredibly embroidered. This type of work is typically dated to late Ming-early Ching. Mounted.
