Kashmiri Shawl Fragment
Kashmir shawls combine excellent materials, precise technique, and artistic creativity. The wool used comes from the fine under-hair of the Asian goat. It is spun into a superior and thin yarn of the highest grade. The weaving technique is double interlocking twill tapestry, which is labor-intensive and requires small armies to carry out. As their style evolved through the years, they can be reasonably accurately dated.
This shawl fragment is a good example which has been lovingly repaired.
