Floral Motif Ottoman Embroidery

Linen sash of tabby woven loose linen decorated along its borders with meandering vines carrying polychrome flowers. The four corners of the plain field have floral bouquets tied with silver ribbons.

The silk embroidery is executed in stem stitch while the metallic handiwork is done with a flat ribbon atop couching of silk cords. All the work is double sided and of very high quality, indicating that it was most likely produced by a commercial workshop in Istanbul or Smirna.
