Macedonian Headdress
Macedonian headdress heavily decorated with geometric designs in black and red. The overall design is reminiscent of Muslim prayer arch but as its origin is not Muslim and judging by the interrupted design in the main field it makes sense that this is a headdress with the top at the contours of the forehead. It probably had coins hanging over the forehead and on the unembroidered center. The madder sourced red is a very popular dye and predominates in many of the costumes and embroideries of western Macedonia.
