Tapestry Bag, Syria
Silk tapestry bag with two similar faces; front and back both decorated in a floral motif. Lined in red silk, with metal thread fringe overall and 3 tassels of metal thread ending with tiny decorative black sequin drops. This type of design was made most likely for the export market.
The tapestry is plain weft-faced weave with weft threads of different colors worked over portions of the warp to form a design. The warp threads are hidden and the weft yarn discontinuous. Each color is interlaced back and forth in its own area.
