Central Asian Tent Band
The tent bands of central Asia are an integral part of the trellis tent. A wooden skeleton is covered with felts to provide insulation. Tent bands then girdle the roof and the cylindrical walls of the tent. Tent bands have two functions: structural and decorative struts. Tent bands are a pivotal part of the Central Asian nomadic tradition.
A fragment of mixed technique with the pile providing the decorative element, in this case, as elemental as can be, pairs of ram’s horns flanking a narrow strip of diamond-shaped medallions with similar strips at borders.
