Banjara Quilt
Cotton embroidered cotton in a variety of stitches including chain, satin, and herringbone; further decorated with small mirror fragments, cowry shells, tassels and other materials. The design is mostly abstract with geometrical shapes in groups. Embroideries as this are made by the Banjara people, a Hindu caste of carters that evolved into a caste of day laborers, both men, and women. Their embroideries are small and used as Rumals(covers). They often get adapted into bags. This composite is modern and made of several such old embroideries.
