Banjara Quilt

Cotton embroidered cotton in a variety of stitches including chain, satin and herringbone; further decorated with small mirror fragments, cowry shells , tassles and other materials. The design mostly abstract with geometrical shapes in groups .Embroideries as this are made by the Banjara people, a Hindu caste of carters that evolved into a caste of day laborers, both men and women. Their embroideries are small and square and used as Rumals (covers). They often get converted into bags.This composite is modern and made of several such old embroideries.
