19th c Chinese Silk Seat Cover
Often confused as a wall hanging due to its shape, the Chinese silk seat cover is draped over a chair and used for meetings with important dignitaries or ceremonial functions. Draped over a chair the imagery is upright on front and back. The silk is embroidered with auspicious symbols of the bat, dog, dragons, and clouds.
The textile is embroidered with gold metal thread on a silk persimmon color ground.
